The Office of the Vice President (OVP), through its Disaster Operations Center (DOC), promptly launched relief operations in Balungao, Pangasinan to provide urgent assistance to communities severely affected by recent flooding.
Severe flooding caused by successive typhoons Crising, Dante, and Emong left widespread damage across various parts of the country—including Balungao, Pangasinan, where hundreds of homes and farmlands were submerged.
In response, the Office of the Vice President (OVP), through its Disaster Operations Center (DOC), immediately conducted relief operations to assist affected communities.
A total of 1,169 families in Balungao received food bags from the OVP-DOC. Each food pack contained five kilograms of rice and assorted canned goods, offering immediate relief to flood-stricken residents.
Many of the affected residents recounted the trauma brought by the unexpected surge of floodwaters.
“Nasa bahay lang ako nung bilang bumuhos ang tubig. Ginising ako ng anak ko na tingnan naming ‘yung mga baka, muntik na nga malunod kasi biglang dumating ang tubig na malakas,” (I was just inside the house when the water suddenly rushed in. My child woke me up to check on our cattle—some of them almost drowned because the water came so fast,) said Noly Kagiwa, one of the flood victims.
“Kami po ay nasa loob ng bahay at bigla-bigla na lang bumaha dito dahil sa pagkawala ng tubig sa dam sa San Roque na di namin namamalayan. Kaya ang ginawa namin ay isinalba naming ang mga gamit at nabaha kami hanggang tuhod sa loob ng aming bahay,” (We were inside when the water started rising quickly. We later learned that it was caused by the release of water from the San Roque Dam. We tried to save whatever we could, but the flood reached knee-deep inside our home,) shared Leonardo Valdez.
For many residents, the food bags distributed by the OVP brought much-needed comfort and hope in the aftermath of the disaster.
“Malaking tulong po ang ibinigay ninyo Madam Sara Duterte Vice President, natutuwa po kami dito lahat sa Rajal, bayan ng Balungao,” (We’re truly grateful for the assistance given by Vice President Sara Duterte. Everyone here in Rajal, Balungao is very happy,) said Donnabelle Opeña, also among those affected.
The OVP continues to extend support to disaster-hit areas nationwide as part of its mission to assist vulnerable communities during emergencies.
