The continued growth of businesses launched under the Office of the Vice President’s (OVP) Mag Negosyo Ta ‘Day (MTD) Program marks a major milestone in the government’s efforts to empower Filipinos through sustainable livelihood support.
In Mandaluyong City, women-led members of the Solid Consumer Cooperative expanded their operations in producing liquid detergent, fabric conditioner, and other cleaning products after receiving a Php150,000 livelihood grant from the program.
From Legazpi City, Albay, artisan and MTD grantee Rafael Orbase brought his accessories made from beach stones, wood, and recycled glass bottles to international markets, while wood carving shops run by grantees in Banaue, Ifugao gained global recognition for their world-class craftsmanship.
In Pangasinan, junkshop owner Queenie strengthened her daily livelihood after acquiring her own sidecar through the program, contributing to the OVP’s record of supporting 35 organizations and more than 3,000 individuals as of November last year, with expectations of assisting even more MSMEs in 2026.
Across Visayas, the OVP has sustained its support for over three years, including assistance to the United PWD Association for Rehabilitation and Development, Inc. (UPWARD), which used its Php150,000 grant to operate a rice retail shop and promoted the message that disability is not a barrier to dignified work.
Also in the region, Antique-based farmer Lenon expanded his lettuce farm now supplying Boracay with an estimated monthly income of Php40,000, while beneficiaries from Cebu City and Eastern Visayas increased production capacity and product variety through additional capital support.
In Mindanao, the MTD Program, implemented through four satellite offices, helped the 3rd Battalion MILF Fishermen Cooperation in BARMM establish its own fishpond, expanded bakery and processed food businesses in Caraga, and supported organic product advocacy in Zamboanga City.
The success stories of MTD grantees from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao affirm that with proper government support—paired with discipline, perseverance, and hard work—economic progress and community resilience are within reach for Filipino entrepreneurs nationwide.
